Certified Green Venue
Event planners concerned about choosing a location that is healthier for the environment will be pleased to know that Cobo Center is a certified Michigan Green Venue. What does this mean? It means that the Cobo Center Green Committee meets several times a month to continue to promote sustainability practices and green initiatives throughout the center.
The committee takes cutting energy usage seriously. Currently the building uses an induction lighting system, reducing 40% of previous electric usage. The glass-enclosed concourse area on the main level and third floor provide enough natural light during daytime hours, also helping to minimize electricity usage. Even Centerplate, Cobo’s exclusive food and beverage contractor, reuses food that has not been served by donating it to local food pantries through Southeastern Michigan. The upcoming renovations, scheduled to be finished for 2015, continue to keep Cobo Center a green certified Michigan venue.
