In spite of the adversity the Motor City has faced in the last few months, the newly renovated Cobo Center is bring back prosperity. After declaring bankruptcy, the city of Detroit is struggling to find its way in an era of new technology and progress. Detroit centered businesses and entrepreneurs are doing their best to encourage business, and many businesses have found innovative ways to bring prosperity back to the Motor city.

In the past three years, the Cobo Center completed $50.19 million in renovations. Additional renovations, including plans to construct a brand new 30,000 square foot atrium, are scheduled for the next two years. Plans for the new facility focus on improving the design of the center and the attendee experience. These renovations are all part of the Cobo Center’s plan to raise the symbol of the living spirit of Detroit on the Detroit river.

Colleen Neaton, a planner with the Michigan Charter School Conference, said that she and her team are excited to use the space for their upcoming event, the 16th Annual Michigan Charter School Conference. "New renovations are going to really help event planners," said Neaton. She mentioned the new loading docks, electronic signs for vendors, and technology for exhibitors which would help planners organize large conferences and trade shows.

Neaton, who will be using the ballroom space and breakout session spaces, said that the Cobo staff was accommodating and willing to work with her planning team. The Cobo center has banquet rooms and over 70 meeting rooms to accommodate anywhere from 30 to 10,000 people, so planners organizing any event can work at the center.

The Cobo Center is expanding, but it is also taking a step back from old consumption habits. The Center has adopted new Green initiatives to promote sustainability. The planned renovations include measures to improve energy efficiency by using new technology. Planners can even work with the center to make their events more green.
